The Wiener Börse AG was founded as early as 1771, which makes it one of the world’s oldest exchanges. Today, Wiener Börse AG is a modern, customer- and market-oriented financial service organization in the private sector. Wiener Börse AG operates the only securities exchange in Austria. The principal tasks of the exchange are organizing the trade on the cash market, the derivative market and the trade with structured products.

Another important area of business is the calculation, dissemination and distribution of indices. Indices developed by Wiener Börse AG are reflecting in real-time the investment opportunities of their constituent securities. Since the mid-nineties, the main focus of index calculation lies, besides Austrian stocks, on Central and Eastern-European as well as on Russian securities. A couple of indices from the Asian region have also been launched in recent years.
